We are reviving the project with the help of a new developer.


Before the end of January there will be a new release (finally!) containing all the new features which were done earlier in the year but not yet released.

Now that the summer is over, and the University degrees have finished, work now continues on Aventide with most of the development team still involved in a release.  We appreciate your patience and we are aiming to deliver a release in the next few months that follow.  We have taken in all your comments about the Alpha and are committed to resolving them.  We can't wait for you to see what we've done.

Most of the developers are tied up at the minute with their final year Uni projects so game development is on the back burner for the next fortnight.  We are hoping to have a release a couple of weeks after that so you can check of the latest cool stuff mentioned in previous posts.

The big overhaul of the weapons system will be available in the next patch.  We didn't think there was enough variation in the weapons available (New weapons such as side winder missiles!) and the bombs didn't display what they actually did very well from the menu.  We aren't only just going to fix this we are going to go one better and allow you to customise the bomb patterns  Cheesy

An inital version of the community map sharing tool by tx2rx is now online and can be visted by the link above.  Once finished it will provide searching and even more detailed statistics such as the number of times it has been played. 

Unfortunatly this upgrade did mean that the current highscores had to be wiped although the highest scores have been taken into account for when we look at map balancing, thanks for the testing  Grin

The tool will only accept Alpha 3 maps so please wait for our next release before testing it out.  Alpha 3 is getting alot closer to release and is expected to be released in the near future, the patch notes in the previous post has been updated with more features.

The next patch will be to Alpha 3 of which the release date is TBA.  While things may look like they have been quiet we have been rather busy behind the scenes so if you have any more suggestions / bugs keep them coming as we have fixed all the ones we have had so far!

Some of the things we have been working on are:

  • Couple of new maps - We are looking for 3rd party ones to include!
  • Revised movement physics for better performance
  • Ships now have 100% more cargo !
  • Many map editor tweaks/fixes and more comments so make it easier to use
  • You can now make non square maps.
  • The guideance system for missles and certain other objects is now fixed so higher calibre missles will once again track to their target.
  • Music tweaks (several changes and bug fix where music would not always play)
  • Split screen co-op
  • Timer now stops when the game is paused
  • New turret: Flare turret
  • Multiplier system similar to those in FPS games for extra bonuses for those you can kill targets in short succession.
  • In game objects will now act and look differently depending on their level - for example turrets will aim differently / do more damage or aircraft will fire missles that track to you.
  • New installer that includes DirectX/XNA/.NET as required
  • Vista game explorer support
  • Totally new weapon system which instead of totally comprising of missles now includes gun turrets and sidewinder missles among other new toys Smiley
  • Inital air balancing - you can no longer one shot aircraft.
  • Inteligent bootloader (If you have had issues running the game in the past this'll tell you where you are going wrong.
  • Map triggers

This patch almost makes it a whole new game again and the triggers will add some good variety to the game play but more detail on that closer to release.
